A frail old man lived with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year-old grandson. His hands trembled and his eyesight was blurred, which made eating rather difficult: peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor; when he grasped the glass milk often spilled on the tablecloth.

一位年老体衰的老人和儿子、儿媳及四岁的小孙子生活在一起。老人的双手颤抖，眼睛昏花，吃饭成了相当困难的事儿：豆子从他的勺子里滚到地板上;拿杯子时牛奶常洒在桌布上。

The old man’s son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess, so they set a small table in the corner and let him eat alone there. Since he had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl.

儿子和儿媳对这种乱糟糟的样子感到很反感，便在角落给老人单独摆了张小桌，让老人一个人在那里吃饭。由于老人曾打碎了一两只盘子，所以他的饭碗也被换成了一只木碗。

Sometimes the old man had a tear in his eye as he ate alone. When he dropped a fork or spilled food, the only words the couple had for him were very sharp. The grandson watched it all in silence.

老人独自吃饭时，眼里有时会含着泪花。当他把叉子掉在地上或洒了食物时，夫妇二人便会对他说一些很难听的话。小孙子静静地看着发生的一切。

One evening, the husband noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child, “What are you making?” The boy responded, “Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and mama to eat your food from when I grow up.”

一天晚上，丈夫发现儿子正在地板上玩木块，便问孩子：“你在做什么?”儿子回答：“哦，我在给你和妈妈做小碗，等我长大了给你们用。”

On hearing the boy’s words, the couple were speechless and tears started to stream down their cheeks. That evening the husband took his father's hand and gently led him back to the family table.

夫妇俩听完孩子的话后沉默无语，开始泪流满面。那晚，丈夫拉着父亲的手，轻轻地把他带到家里的饭桌旁。

The old man ate every meal with the family from then on. And neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

从此，老人每一顿饭都和家人一起吃。当叉子掉在地上，牛奶被弄洒，桌布被弄脏时，夫妇俩也都不那么在意了。

Children are remarkably perceptive. Their eyes always observe, their ears always listen, and their minds always process the messages they absorb. If they see their parents patiently provide a happy home atmosphere for family members, they will imitate that attitude for the rest of their lives.

孩子有惊人的洞察力。他们一直在用眼睛观察，用耳朵倾听，并用头脑处理着接收的信息。如果他们看见父母耐心地为家庭成员提供一个快乐的家庭氛围，他们就会在今后的生活中模仿这种态度。
