Some people contend that money is the source of happiness. With money they can buy everything they need in the world. They hold that money is power. For instance, if one has lots of money, he can go to a leading university for better education and have a satisfactory job after graduation, make even more money, and buy a luxurious house or whatever he desires. No doubt he will live happily. However, some people hold that there are things that money cannot buy, such as health, happiness and friendship. What is more, money can be the root of evil. As the common saying goes, “A man may go astray once he makes much money; a woman may become rich once she becomes loose in morals.” A too strong desire for money and improper use of money can lead to disaster.

三、勤奋与成功

It is generally believed that diligence is the key to success. As a proverb says, “Diligence is the mother of success. ” Diligence means working hard and persistently. All famous people of great achievements are examples of diligence. They all owe their success to hard work. Without certain efforts, no one can expect to succeed in doing anything great. Thomas Edison kept on working hard for a long time before he was able to invent an electronic light. Madam Curie worked hard in the poor conditions for many years before she finally discovered radium. As college students, we must be aware that the only way to success is hard work. We must concentrate our attention on our studies, and make full use of our precious time, in order to meet the fierce challenges in the future competitions. It is certain that our future success will only rest on our constant efforts.

四、梦想与行动

Ambition serves to motivate and guide us in our daily lives. It provides us with the focus and the direction that enable us to work towards accomplishing a specific goal, objective or task. In addition,having ambitions can add joy and meaning to one’s life. Achieving success is a gradual process; it may take us several years, or even decades, to realize our potential. Ambition can provide us with hope and optimism, keep our spirits high, and help us to maintain a state of spiritual well being so that we have the patience and strength to forge ahead until we have fulfilled our dreams or succeeded in our endeavors. While ambition serves as the motivating and organizing force that keeps us going and guides us along our path, action enables us to transform our aspirations from a state of potentiality into reality. To take action means to carry out an intention or execute a plan.Those who aspire to become successful athletes, for example, must be willing to spend long hours training and working out. Many people have dreams or aspiration, but not all of us are willing to commit the time and energy required to see our goals through to the finish line. People may fail to act on their ambitions for a variety of reasons, such as laziness, risk aversion or alack of confidence. However, those who truly wish to succeed must overcome these barriers and learn to take action.
