Sheet”这个词有“表格、清单”的意思，比如“spread sheet”（总分析表，一览表），“balance sheet”（资产负债表），“med sheet”（用药清单）等等。同时我们也常常看到“cheat sheet”和“rap sheet”，这又是什么表格或清单呢？

　　“Cheat sheet”有“cheat”（欺骗），想当然的话，一定会认为它是个贬义词。的确，“cheat sheet”原意有“小抄”的意思，所以字典里的定义是“A piece of paper with information written down on it that an unethical person might create if they weren't prepared for a test.”。然而，“cheat sheet”的说法已经走出了贬义的阴影，成为“简要说明，步骤说明书”的意思。例如：

　　We asked the engineer to develop a cheat sheet for this machine.我们要求工程师给我们弄个简单的机器说明书。

　　The cheat sheet was attached to the package of the camera.说明书就贴在照相机的包装盒上。

　　而“rap sheet”的意思则有些不太好猜。“rap”有很多意思，如“轻敲，扣击”“，”斥责“；同时”rap“还指上世纪七十年代在美国兴起的一种音乐形式，即说唱音乐。但”rap sheet“的意思与以上说法都没什么关系。在美国俚语中，”rap“还有惩罚的意思，例如：

　　They gave him a big rap.他们狠狠地教训了他一顿。

　　“Rap sheet”其实指的是“犯罪记录”。例如：

　　This neighbor of theirs has a long rap sheet. 他们的这个街坊犯过不少事。

　　I have never had a rap sheet and my record is clean.我从来没有犯过事，清清白白。
